Fish and Chips
Posted by iVi | Filed under Food & Drink
Fish and Chips is generally considered to be an English dish but its origins lie in Jewish and French dishes. This is a mixture of the French fries and the Jewish fried fish. In the nineteenth century eating quality food was the primary goal of the British rather than stressing on the variety. Thus fish and chips were considered nutritious and affordable.
The fish is deep fried in batter and served with deep fried potatoes and is a popular take away in UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, some coastal towns in Norway and Netherlands and also in the US. The fried potatoes are referred to as chips in British while the Americans call them French fries.
