Sushi

Frozen Sushi Sushi is a Japanese delicacy that has become popular throughout the world as it is considered healthy and convenient to make. It is a combination of cooked or raw fish, shellfish, seasoned rice and vegetables. Though Sushi is associated with Japanese culture it actually originated in China in the seventh century.

Initially the fish had to be fermented and so raw fish was cleaned and pressed by a heavy stone among the layers of salt for weeks after which the stone would be replaced by a lighter material. The fish was allowed to ferment for months within the layers of salt.

As time passed by the fish was rolled in vinegar soaked rice and allowed to ferment for a couple of days. The rice was discarded and the fish was eaten but as a result of food shortages caused by droughts the rice was consumed along with the fish.
